The Tupolev Tu-22 bomber is a supersonic bomber produced by the Soviet Tupolev Design Bureau (now the United Airlines Group) and the first supersonic bomber equipped by the Soviet Union.
The design task of Figure-22 is to use the group-level flight formation to assault the enemy's deep strategic goal to compensate for the lack of the assault of the Figure-16 bomber. In 1962, it officially joined the Soviet Air Force sequence, with a total production capacity of more than 300, and exported to Libya and Iraq. The last Tu-22 bomber was decommissioned from the Ukrainian Air Force in 1998.
Figure-22 is equipped with two RD-7 turbojet engines at the rear of the aircraft. The maximum thrust is 22,000 kN. It provides the power of the -22-11 to achieve a flight speed of Mach 1.5 and can be loaded with 9 tons. Ammunition or a Kh-22 cruise missile.
