1/144 German 28cm K5(E) 'Leopold' Railway Gun

ITEM NO: DRA 14131
EAN-13 BARCODE: 0089195141316
SCALE: 1:144
ANNOUNCED ON: 7/18/2019
EST ARRIVAL: September 2019

Dragon has previously released an enormous 1/35 scale kit of ‘Leopold’, but its size probably precluded many from even beginning any attempt at building it. Dragon now has the ideal solution in the form of its Mini Armor collection, with a convenient 1/144 scale kit of the German 28cm K5(E). This scale is much more manageable, plus the finished product will not take up nearly as much shelf space! This kit has everything needed to form a stunning diorama straight from the box, for the set includes a section of railway track and embankment for the railway gun to sit on. Not only that, but Dragon also includes artillery crewmen to populate the gun and surrounding diorama. And the most amazing thing about this Mini Armor item? There are actually two different and complete K5(E) railway guns on offer: one is finished in plastic that is German panzer gray, and the other in dark yellow. That means modelers can choose the one best suited to the diorama they have in mind, either in an Italian theater or somewhere elsewhere in Europe. ‘Leopold’ lives again – it’s still big but it’s much more conveniently sized than before!

SCALE: 1:35

Tanks played a decisive role throughout the bloody battles of the Pacific, and the most important tank for the Allies was the M4 Sherman. One variant of the Sherman commonly found in the Pacific Theater of Operations (PTO) was the so-called “composite hull”. This referred to some M4 Shermans that featured a cast front hull mated to a welded rear hull.

Dragon's 1/35 M4 Sherman “Composite Hull” PTO has now been enhanced and released anew. The key difference is a set of brand new T48 track links produced under the Magic Tracks label. These T48 tracks are accurately engineered and beautifully injection molded. This kit is the culmination of intensive research, allowing modelers to conveniently depict an M4 Sherman tank taking part in the Pacific Theater of Operation.

This new kit represents a German 4×2 truck carrying a 2cm FlaK 30/38 antiaircraft cannon. This measure gave greater mobility to the ant iaircraft weapon for either use against aircraft or ground targets, and, to enhance crew protection for what could often be a dangerous role, the truck cab was also outfitted with makeshift armor plates. Armor was also added over the front grill to protect parts of the engine. The result is a novel-looking German vehicle of WWII.

As would be expected, this new German Armored 3t 4×2 Truck w/Antiaircraft Gun shares the highly accurate cab and chassis of Dragon’s pre-existing 1/35 scale kit of the German 4×2 cargo truck. Appropriate modifications are offered. For example, newly tooled injection-molded parts are provided to accurately create the armor plates on the front of the truck, while the 2cm cannon is added by utilizing Dragon’s highly acclaimed offering. The whole vehicle assembles easily and the result is that this popular truck now bears a brand new look. Indeed, the rough-and-ready appearance of this vehicle will create a fascinating project for modelers who love both soft-skin vehicles and armored vehicles!

As its latest Combo Kit featuring convenient and appealing vehicle pairings, Dragon is offering a German Sd.Kfz.7 halftrack towing an 8.8cm FlaK 36/37 gun. The rather iconic Sd.Kfz.7 was originally designed to tow both the 8.8cm FlaK gun and the 15cm sFH.18 howitzer. It could accommodate up to 12 soldiers of a gun crew, as well as a limited amount of ammunition. Turning to the FlaK.37, this famous 8.8cm weapon could be used in both the antiaircraft and antitank roles.

Dragon’s release of an Sd.Kfz.7 halftrack towing an s.FH.18 15cm howitzer (Item No. 6918) was very successful, prompting the offering of this natural companion – the same halftrack but this time towing the 8.8cm FlaK 36/37 gun. Of course, these items are available as separate kits, but this superb combination gives modelers everything they need in a single box and at an even more competitive price than buying them singly. Given that both the German halftrack and the gun were widely used in every theater throughout WWII, there is virtually no limit to what the imaginative modeler can do with this combination.

In 2010 Dragon released the most stunning ship kit ever till that point – a 1/350 scale rendition of the famous German battleship Scharnhorst (Item No.1040). That was later joined by a kit of the 31,500-ton battleship as she appeared in 1941 (Item No. 1036), but now Dragon has turned back the clock even further.

This time it’s launching an equally fabulous kit showing how the Scharnhorst looked in 1940. In 1940 she was involved in the invasion of Norway, during which she sank the British carrier HMS Glorious.

The size, accuracy, ease of assembly and inclusion of bonus parts have all contributed to the roaring success of Dragon’s 1/350 scale kits of the Scharnhorst. Now the warship has been given an overhaul to backdate her to the correct configuration for the 1940 time period.

Dragon is releasing another exciting 1/35 scale Premium Edition kit of an 8×8 vehicle from the German Sd.Kfz.234 series. This kit depicts probably the most famous variant, the 234/2 that was commonly referred to as the Puma. The first batch of vehicles was delivered in December 1943, and by the time production ceased in September 1944, a total of 101 vehicles had been produced.

Original kit of Sd.Kfz.234/2 (#6256) possessed a phenomenal amount of detail. Dragon is constantly striving to raise the bar, and so it was time to update it as a Premium Edition kit. Improvements include 3 sandwich-type road wheels as option. All wheels can be adjusted to different angles. Further refinement comes from a selection of photo-etched metal parts. The turret is accurately shaped and includes realistic weld seams. This Puma, a plastic work of art, is oozing with feline charm, and it should form an essential complement to any respectable WWII model collection.

At the turn of the year, Dragon released a scintillating 1/35 scale kit of the famous German panzer ace Michael Wittmann’s “Last Tiger” (Item No. 6800). It was a hot seller, and now it’s being joined by another signature kit depicting a panzer ace. This time a Tiger I Mid-Production kit represents the tank (numbered ‘217’) of Oberleutnant Otto Carius that participated in a short but sharp tank battle in the village of Malinava in Latvia on 22 July 1944. During WWII, Carius accounted for more than 150 enemy tanks.

This Tiger I Mid-Production kit allows modelers to precisely create tank ‘217’ of s.Pz.Abt.502 straight from the box.
