NEW FROM Dragon Models

1/35 Sd.Kfz.253 w/Panzer I Turret

The Sd.Kfz.253, based on the Sd.Kfz.250 light halftrack family, was used by Germany as an observation vehicle for artillery forward observers. This Beobachtungswagen observation vehicle was fully enclosed rather than having the open-topped compartment found on the standard halftrack. A total of 285 Sd.Kfz.253s were manufactured by Demag and Wegman from 1940-41. Interestingly, a wartime photo exists of a very rare conversion performed on an Sd.Kfz.253, where a Panzer I turret was fitted onto the halftrack hull.

Logically, the kit makes use of parts from Dragon’s latest new-generation Sd.Kfz.250 items. These are the highest-quality model Sd.Kfz.250s available on the market. Likewise, the turret emanates from Dragon’s highly acclaimed Panzer I family. The vehicle also features a set of Magic Tracks to ease assembly for the modeler. This Sd.Kfz.253/Panzer I turret combo was extremely rare, but now modelers can add their very own miniature version to their model collections.

Dragon is in the process of releasing a series of aircraft kits in boxes emblazoned in the original colors for which Trimaster was famous. The first reissue was a Focke-Wulf Fw190D-9 fighter, but now it’s time for the second kit to appear, an He162A-2 Salamander with detailed engine.

The engine-cowling cover is movable, thus permitting the fighter’s BMW 003E jet engine to be exposed in all its glorious detail should modelers choose to portray the He162D engine cowling open. Additionally, there is a complete set of photo-etched components for items such as a cockpit instrument panel and seatbelt for the pilot. The Trimaster name is synonymous with exclusive and quality kits and, thanks to Dragon, some of its most popular items such as this jet-powered Salamander are available to all again at very approachable prices.

1/35 Pz.Kpfw.III Ausf.N s.Pz.Abt.501 Tunisia 1942/43 Est Arrival: July 2020

Dragon’s fantastic 1/35 scale Neo Smart Kit range is gathering momentum as it rides a wave of popularity. It’s therefore time to add another newcomer, this time is the final variant of the Panzer III family, the Ausf.N, one that’s operating in the hot climate of North Africa with the German Afrika Korps. Armed with a short-barreled, low-velocity 7.5cm KwK.37 L/24 gun, the Panzer III N was commonly issued to Tiger battalions. This is certainly the case with this Dragon kit, which shows a tank from s.Pz.Abt.501. The second battalion ever to receive Tiger I tanks, s.Pz.Abt.501 fought in Tunisia from November 1942 till its surrender in May the following year.

Receiving the standard, but exemplary, Neo Smart Kit treatment, this new item features Dragon’s Neo track links as well as a interior. The result for the market is the most accurate Panzer III kit ever from Dragon. Indeed, the kit is extremely well engineered in 1/35 scale, offering a sublime balance between accuracy and easy assembly. Dragon already offers a scintillating kit of Tiger Is fighting in Tunisia during the desert war, so this Neo Smart Kit could make the perfect accompaniment for a dramatic scene, or then again this excellent tank is good enough to stand on its own in a sandy and dusty Afrika Korps setting too!

11020 “Houston, we’ve had a problem 1/72 Apollo 13 CSM & LM AQUARIUS

6b841d53gy1geat491857j20u016fb2a

One of the most famous spaceflight was Apollo 13, which was supposed to be NASA’s third crewed mission to land on the Moon. However, after the spacecraft was launched on 11 April 1970, any lunar landing had to be aborted after an oxygen tank accidentally exploded in the Service Module (SM). Rather than landing on the Moon, the spacecraft looped around it and the three-man crew returned safely to Earth on 17 April. With a shortage of oxygen for life support and propulsion systems, the controllers and crew were forced to improvise to get home safely, a saga that has been dramatized several times in movies. Now, approaching the 50th anniversary of the event, Dragon has released a special 1/72 scale kit of Apollo 13 to honor the courage of those involved.

Model-makers can make either SM in pristine condition as at launch, or the SM after it had been damaged by the explosion. The latter version has an external panel ripped off, and part of the interior is visible. With the 50th anniversary of Apollo 13 fast approaching, modelers can relive this dramatic episode in a unique way with a fine 1/72 scale kit.

Dragon has resurrected its much-loved 1/144 scale kit of the B-1B Lancer bomber, giving rebirth to this item with newly tooled parts. Although this US Air Force bomber is officially named the Lancer, crews prefer to call it the “Bone” (phonetically it’s easy to see why – “B-One”!).

Dragon’s highly detailed 1/144 scale model kit of the B-1B Lancer mimics the shape of the real aircraft. Furthermore, its wings can be swept backwards or forwards according to the modeler’s wishes. The sleek fuselage is accurately reproduced too. This upgraded model includes new additions such as the AN/AAQ-33 Sniper Advanced Targeting Pod as well. In order to model a bomber engaged in combat in such places as Kosovo, Iraq or Afghanistan, a full bomb load is included. Thus, GBU-31 JDAM munitions are available to fill the bomb bay (which can be shown open or closed) of this delightfully detailed scale model. Given a new lease of life after being discontinued for so long, modelers will definitely want to pick this Bone!

Dragon DRA 7627 1/72 Sd.Kfz.165 Hummel Early Production w/Neo Track

EST ARRIVAL: June 2020

Hot on the heels – or tracks, as the case may be – of Dragon’s new 1/72 scale Nashorn with Neo tracks, comes another kit in this same scale that shares the same tracks. This time it’s the Hummel, a German self-propelled howitzer (SPH) created by installing a 15cm sFH 18 L/30 howitzer on a Panzer IV chassis. The Sd.Kfz.165 Hummel was produced from late 1942 onwards because of an urgent need for artillery that could keep pace with Germany’s panzers. Its combat debut occurred during the titanic Battle of Kursk.

With the Nashorn so recently receiving Neo tracks, it is logical that its close companion the Hummel should do so too. These tracks come with pre-assembled straight runs where applicable, and they can be realistically sagged and shaped by hand. Other parts come as individual links to allow them to perfectly conform to the shape of sprockets, etc. The engineering is top notch. The 15cm howitzer, which is fully seen inside the open-topped fighting compartment, is resplendent in rich detail, as is the rest of the interior. There are even photo-etched parts available to take detail to the next level. A welcome sight, this bumble bee comes right on the tail of a Neo track-shod rhinoceros!

Dragon DRA 6787 1/35 JSU-122 vs Panzerjäger (3 in 1) – EST ARRIVAL:June 2020

We are offering a superlative 3-in-1 set, where modelers can build any one of three Russian heavy self-propelled weapons in 1/35 scale: a JSU-122, JSU-122S or JSU-152. The relevant parts for all these variants are contained in the one box, and modelers can choose which JSU variant they want to produce. Each vehicle is accurately detailed and assembles easily with convenient Magic Track. Another huge advantage of this kit is a special bonus set of figures, the 1/35 set featuring Panzerjägers (German tank hunters). Thus, straight from the box, modelers can build a dramatic diorama showing German soldiers attempting to stop one of these Russian steel behemoths late in WWII. It is rare to have such versatility available to modelers, with a choice from no fewer than three different AFVs available, as well as matching figures. It’s a case of tank hunters hunting tank hunters!

Dragon DRA 6537 1/35 JS-2 Stalin II (3 in 1) + Soviet Infantry Tank Riders

EST ARRIVAL: June 2020

Dragon is releasing a sterling 1/35 scale set featuring the heavy Russian JS tanks, and the main feature is that it’s a 3-in-1 kit. In fact, modelers can choose to build a JS-1, a JS-2 or a JS-2m ChkZ Production Type. The necessary parts for all these variants are contained in the box, and modelers can choose one of them to produce. In addition to the Russian heavy armor versatility on display here, it even includes a set of associated Soviet Infantry Tank Riders, a classis 1/35 figure set from Dragon’s range.

The tank and infantrymen are a perfect match, as photos and wartime footage commonly show Soviet soldiers riding into battle in this way. Usually a Dragon figure set contains four soldiers, but this set actually has six, making it even more useful. What you have here are all the ingredients to create a compelling Eastern Front diorama.
